Following the appointment of BMW Group as the Official Automotive Partner of the 2012 Games, BMW is now actively supporting British athletes, such as Ellie Simmonds and Louis Smith, via the BMW London 2012 Performance Team. Meanwhile, in line with the Performance Team initiative, BMW dealers like us will be working with local athletes, supporting their endeavours to qualify for Team GB or Paralympics GB.
Steven Burke trains locally, and you may already have seen him cycling around Burnley, Pendle and around the Yorkshire Dales. In the winter months he trains at the Velodrome in Manchester. Burnley-born Steven has been cycling since the age of three but took the sport up seriously at the age of 14 and at just 23 has already won a bronze medal at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, two Senior World Championship medals, five European Championship titles, two Junior World Championship Medals and 10 British titles.
“I’m really grateful to Lloyd Colne and BMW for their support,” said Steven. “It’s tough trying to qualify for a place at London 2012 and it’s a big help knowing that they are behind us, helping to raise funds and awareness. It’s also fantastic having a brand new BMW 3 Series from now until the end of the London 2012 Games. There’s a lot of travelling to heats, competitions and promotional events so it’s great being able to arrive there in style.”
